What the U.S. president nominees discuss that the Indian politicians are absolutely unaware of ? - Part 1 ( The use of Technology )

( I read a few articles some moments ago about how the U.S. president nominees differ with each other on some ideas and I was amazed when I compared that with the Indian Politics. I found in the U.S., their debates are totally different from what we do have in India. We in India see politicians fighting like uncivilized and illiterate people over the issues which have nothing to do with the overall growth of the country. We in India do fight for temple or mosque but we are unaware where we are at the globe as far as our growth is concerned. Riots can let a particular party win in the forthcoming elections but it will make the country ashamed of on the international front. The thought process of our country's leaders is still just to attract votes and to remain in power anyhow, by any means. On the other hand when I saw U.S. president nominees debating and being compared to each other, it is totally a different mindset with altogether different thoughts. Here, I am presenting some of the excerpts from many articles which I found worth sharing with you... and the series will continue in the later posts and issues as well.)

Whereas in India most of the times at elections, parties do not fortell or declare their PM nominee, In the U.S. when people of America choose their President, they want to know even the tech. policies of the nominees as well.

Here, I am presenting some of the technical know how and thoughts of the U.S. President nominees, about the technology and use of the technology for the overall development.

John McCain has said this is a fact that he rarely uses e-mail or the Internet. During the Republican primary, he referred to himself as computer illiterate. And earlier this month, he told The New York Times that he depends on his wife and staff to show him Web sites. McCain explained he didn't feel the need to send e-mails. E-mails do have a way of sometimes leading to misunderstandings. McCain prefers to use the phone. But Still..............................

McCain has proposed a program to provide tax and financial benefits for companies that provide broadband services to low-income and rural users, his camp says says. "It may require some government assistance, either through financial subsidy policy or through other kinds of creative tools, like community or municipal broadband services."

While pointing fingers on Obama’s comment that “as president, he would appoint a technology czar” the camp of Mccain says McCain's vision goes beyond having "a top tech guy sitting over at the White House." The real key for McCain, is to hire more people with technology experience throughout the government who can envision technology solutions for education, health care, homeland security and other issues.

McCain, he says, hopes to create momentum in all branches of government to foster "a range of e-government initiatives." That would include making more government services available online and hiring people with substantial tech experience to "populate throughout the government.

On the other hand, Obama has been seen walking with his BlackBerry — so absorbed you worry he might bump into something. Today, Obama has more than a million friends on Facebook. But 10 years ago, he was just a state legislator in Illinois with a single cell phone. Earlier, some years back, technology made Obama's life more complicated, but ultimately, when he was pushed into the Internet age and into the BlackBerry age, he resisted slightly. But he realized the benefit and the necessity. The Obama for Senate campaign had a blog, which was relatively new in politics, though it was mostly written by a staffer.

Again, technology was a tool.

Obama has called for the creation of a new Cabinet-level position: a "chief technology officer" who would make sure the federal government imports the best technology tools from the private sector Making sure that government agencies have cutting-edge technology would be one part of the technology czar's responsibilities. That person also would be charged with making sure government is more transparent and that there is outreach to the public to get the "best ideas on how we can govern the country," Obama's philosophy on technology is "more activist" than that of GOP presidential candidate John McCain..

Obama understands that the future of the economy depends to a large extent on how we can ensure that we have access to technology and we empower people to use it.

Obama supported a Clinton administration plan to provide all schoolchildren access to the Internet at school; whereas McCain opposed it. Obama and McCain also differ when it comes to the universal service fund — a long-standing mechanism for providing phone service to rural areas that Obama "embraces." It's about making sure that people in rural areas can participate in the information age.

So, people of the great country India are still awaiting the day when the talk and the action between top level 'office chairs' would be for the overall growth of the country than to be just for the sake of a particular community or the party herself...........
